LGU Lingayen tightens Security Measures vs. ASF

Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil orders the concern agencies of the local government to tighten security measures in Lingayen to prevent the possible outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) that is confirmed to have affected numerous hogs in several municipalities in Pangasinan.

Last week, the Provincial Government of Pangasinan has declared confirmed cases of the ASF virus in five barangays of Binmaley, a neighboring town of Lingayen: Canaoalan, Gayaman, Linoc, Poblacion and San Isidro Sur. The Mayor does not want to take chances, as he mandates an airtight security so that the virus will not spread in the municipality.

In response to the mayor’s order, market supervisor Arnulfo Bernardo, assures the public of a continuous round the clock monitoring of the market. He added that they are doing their best to prevent the virus from entering the town. He guarantees that every piece of pork meat being sold in the market is safe to eat as it undergoes thorough inspection before it reaches market stall.

The market supervisor is confident to declare that the town’s slaughterhouse is clean and well-inspected by municipal veterinarian Dr. Avelardo Cruz.

He then encourages the public to buy meat with a seal or mark of the authorized slaughterhouse. Anyone who will caught selling meat that is positive from ASF will be confiscated and will face consequences.

To further ensure the security of Lingayen against ASF, the LGU is planning to implement 1-7-10 Protocol which means quarantine checkpoints should be set-up within 1-kilometer radius of any affected area or suspected farm. Within 7-kilometer radius surveillance should be conducted to contain animal movements while all farm owners within 10-kilometer radius are mandated to report to the department of agriculture.

Meanwhile, a special session is set on January 30, 2020 by the Sangguniang Bayan of Lingayen upon the request of Mayor Bataoil to address various issues and concerns of farm owners, hog raisers and meat vendors in the municipality. (MIO)
