Lingayen Welcomes New Administrator

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan— Along with the unfolding of a new year, the local government unit (LGU) of Lingayen has greeted its new municipal administrator.

Retired Major General Roberto G. Sylim assumed as the new Lingayen administrator effective January 2, 2020. His official assumption was followed by a turnover ceremony, with then administrator Jose Ferrer, held during the flag raising ceremony last Monday (January 6).

According to Sylim, one of his plans is to hold weekly meetings with the department heads to tackle plans for the succeeding months and conduct quarterly assessment of accomplishments and manpower performance.

I would also like to unburden the Mayor of other work loads so that he would be able to focus on his main function as the chief executive, he said.

“I am labeled as a strict person but I just want to make it clear that I am strict with a kind heart and an open mind, the new administrator added.

Prior to his appointment as the municipal administrator, Sylim served in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for 38 years until his retirement last June 11, 2008.

During his active service in the armed forces, MGen Sylim was designated as the Defense and Armed Forces Attaché to the United States then as a Major General. He was subsequently designated as the non-resident Defense and Armed Forces Attaché to Canada and Mexico.

Sylim likewise held numerous other commanding positions in the AFP as well as staff positions in the Philippine Air Force. He was also a pilot captain.

His achievements were well-recognized as he was bestowed various awards including Distinguished Service Stars, Outstanding Achievement Medal, Military Merit Medals, among many others.

Meanwhile, Ferrer, the appointed administrator for the transition period, is now the Mayor’s consultant on political affairs. (MIO)
