TAGNAWA:LINGAYEN VOLUNTEERISM PROGRAM

An exciting day for youth volunteerism! Sharing a belief in the power of young people, Pangasinan State University kindly welcomed youth leaders, the Lingayen Local Youth Development Office, and the U.S. Peace Corps to identify shared advocacies and potential collaborations.

Speaking on their value for youth empowerment, members of the Youth Volunteer Facilitators of Lingayen (YVFL) and Young Environmental Advocates of Lingayen (YEAL) expressed their excitement for the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) to join university volunteerism efforts. Many are PSU students themselves.

PSU Lingayen Campus Executive Director Dr. Marie Claire M. Briones spoke to the leadership of PSU students as well, highlighting the initiatives of PSU student organizations. Meanwhile, Vice President for the Research, Extension & Innovation Office Dr. Razeale G. Resultay and Director of Extension Services Dr. Lorena B. Echalar described the extension work of PSU and the Communiversidad Outreach and Volunteer Program.

All PSU representatives had wonderful ideas for projects connecting efforts of PSU and LYDO. In response, LYDO presented upcoming plans to coordinate municipal volunteer efforts and explained how such plans can support collaborations with PSU.

To assist in developing discussed projects, Peace Corps Volunteer Elina Rayos Dern will begin regularly visiting PSU Extension Services in March. Currently partnering with LYDO and MSWD Lingayen, Rayos Dern is excited to learn about the outreach programs of the university and promote student leadership! PSU plans to additionally request a Peace Corps volunteer dedicated to the campus community full-time.
